Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have shamefully failed Raja Miah MBE, a prominent anti-grooming campaigner, by recording a crime over a fraudulent Facebook (report it here) account impersonating him but taking no action to identify, prosecute, or shut down the fake account.
Only after sickening comments via Facebook Messenger, including grossly offensive incest allegation against his six-year-old niece, grotesque paedophile slurs, and a vile remark about “pissing” on his deceased mother’s grave, did GMP re-record the crime.
Their refusal to act on earlier reports, despite acknowledging the crime, is an unforgivable betrayal, even as Raja’s fight for justice gained global attention through Elon Musk’s repost of his call for a public inquiry into Oldham’s grooming scandal on January 9, 2025.
A Crime Recorded but Ignored
For over a year, a fake Facebook account has exploited Raja Miah’s name, photo, and MBE title, posting racially aggravated lies, including accusations of paedophilia and fraud, to deceive his 30,000 Recusant Nine followers. Raja reported this repeatedly, and while GMP recorded the crime, they disgracefully claimed no further action was needed to identify the culprit or remove the account.
This flouts the Fraud Act 2006 (Section 2), which defines impersonation with intent to cause harm as fraud, the Protection from Harassment Act 1997, which covers conduct causing alarm and distress, the Malicious Communications Act 1988, which prohibits grossly offensive messages, and the Online Safety Act 2023, which mandates action against harmful online content.
GMP’s inaction left Raja, a relentless advocate against child sexual exploitation in Oldham, vulnerable to a vicious smear campaign, despite his cause being amplified by Elon Musk’s repost, which garnered over three million views.
Vile Messenger Comments Force GMP’s Hand
The fake account’s depravity hit new lows with Messenger comments accusing Raja of incest with his six-year-old niece, branding him a “nonce” and paedophile, and spewing a repugnant slur about desecrating his deceased mother’s grave.
These horrific attacks, reported again to police forced GMP to re-record the crime, yet their prior inaction, despite earlier crime recordings, allowed this escalation to comments like “I will smash your ugly shit face in”, “Fucking nonce’.
GMP made no progress on prosecution or account removal.
Why did it take such vile Messenger comments targeting a child and a deceased parent to prompt a response?
GMP’s Neglect Fuels Harm
GMP’s failure to act after recording the crime enabled the impersonator to wreak havoc. The fake account, mimicking Raja’s identity and linking to his website, misled thousands, sowing distrust and tarnishing his credibility as a campaigner whose work has been endorsed by figures like Elon Musk.
Meta’s suspension of Raja’s genuine account, while allowing the fake one to thrive, worsened the damage, yet GMP stood idle, refusing to pursue the perpetrator until the latest Messenger atrocities. Even permitting the fake account to attempt to collect confidential victim information under fraudulent false pretences.

The Protection from Harassment Act 1997, Malicious Communications Act 1988, and Online Safety Act 2023, which requires platforms and authorities to tackle harmful content like false information and abusive communications, were ignored by GMP until public outrage loomed.
A Demand for Accountability
GMP’s belated re-recording of the crime is meaningless without action. They must:

Work with Meta to permanently remove the fake account and reinstate Raja’s genuine one.
Raja’s X post on August 30, 2025, exposing the fake account’s attempts to lure survivors, underscores the urgency. GMP’s failure to act, despite recording the crime, is a stain on their duty.
